Firstly let me introduce myself. My name is Jared and I love surfing. I’m also the founder of Earth and Ocean Fit.
I’m passionate about my health and I’ve come to realise over the years that I’m passionate about the health of those around me as well, that includes you. I started life as a Personal Trainer in a large corporate gym environment and realised over time that it was sucking the life out of me. I loved the job and I loved helping my clients reach their fitness goals but the ethos of the large gym just didn’t gel with me.
I wanted things to be more personal, to really get to know my clients and what made them tick. I wanted to take the time to really learn about their goals, hopes and fitness dreams. I wanted the opportunity to work closely with them to develop individualised training programs unique to them and their needs.
And that’s exactly what I’m here to do.
I 100% believe that you need to take personal responsibility for your health and wellness. I see people falling apart and really letting themselves go, often as early as their 30’s. I hear guys in the surf complaining about their physical health and their injuries. And I’m sick of it. Because you deserve better. And quite frankly you can be better.
You have the right to have a strong, flexible, efficient, vital body.
We have very sedentary lifestyles these days. We sit at a desk, in a car, on the couch. We have precious little time to get out there into the world to live the life we truly want to live. Now, I’m not here to tell you to quit your job and go AWOL! But I am here to tell you that you need to make the most of your “me-time” if you’re really to enjoy life. Chances are if you’ve stopped by this blog you’re a pretty active person.
I’m going to take a punt then and assume that you value your body. You want to feel fit and strong. You want to get out there and do what you love to do.
For me that’s surfing. In fact I take any chance I can to get outdoors into nature to move my body. For you it might be anything from cycling to hiking to kayaking to swimming to simply getting outside for a walk. If I don’t exercise I get grumpy! That’s why I train my body in a way to keep it mobile, strong and injury-free. I know what works for my body and how gym-work can help me perform better in the surf. I want to help you do the same in whatever it is that you love to do.
You’re an individual. You need to train smart by considering your body and your goals. It’s not considered effective training to just smash it out in the gym anymore, lifting heavier and heavier weights, getting your heart rate up higher and higher (yep, I used to be guilty of this). Your body is a system of parts. It’s a machine that needs to be serviced and well looked-after. If one part breaks, or is over-used then the whole system suffers. You develop weaknesses and tight spots and injuries.
That means more time on the couch and less time living life. More time in the physiotherapist’s office or on the chiropractor’s table. God forbid it can even mean a date with the surgeon’s scalpel.
That’s not ok with me. (Disclaimer: physio’s, chiro’s and surgeons do great work and I have great respect for them. I just don’t want to pay for their next BMW).
The purpose of Earth and Ocean fit is to empower you with knowledge. The knowledge you need to truly look after your body. Make it strong, help it move freely, aim for longevity.
I heard a quote once “I’m here for a good time, not a long time”. I say “why not have both?”
